Increases the fee for jury duty service from $30 to $40 per day.
Increases the mileage fee jury duty service from 33 cents to 37

                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO JURORS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 612-8, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:
 
 3      "(a)  Each juror shall be paid [$30] $40 for each day of
 
 4 actual attendance at court.  In addition, each juror shall be
 
 5 paid [33] 37 cents for each mile actually and necessarily
 
 6 traveled in going to and from court.  A person who appears at the
 
 7 time for which that person is summoned to court for jury duty may
 
 8 be allowed the mileage fee although the person, upon that
 
 9 person's request, is subsequently excused or exempted from jury
 
10 service."
 
11      SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general
 
12 revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $1 or so much thereof
 
13 as may be necessary for fiscal year 1999-2000 for the purposes of
 
14 this Act.
 
15      SECTION 3.  The sum appropriated shall be expended by the
 
16 judiciary for the purposes of this Act.
 
17      SECTION 4.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
18 New statutory material is underscored.

 1      SECTION 5.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 1999.
