                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO STATE VETERANS CEMETERY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Chapter 363, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended
 
 2 by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to
 
 3 read as follows:
 
 4      "363-    Interment of Filipino-American service members,
 
 5 veterans, and dependents.  The director shall provide at the
 
 6 state veterans cemetery on Oahu for the interment of the remains
 
 7 of:
 
 8      (1)  Filipino-American residents or former residents of the
 
 9           city and county of Honolulu who died while in the armed
 
10           forces of the United States;
 
11      (2)  Filipino-American honorably discharged veterans of the
 
12           armed forces of the United States with either peacetime
 
13           or wartime service and who are residents of the city
 
14           and county of Honolulu at the time of death, or who
 
15           were former residents;
 
16      (3)  The widows, widowers, or minor children of a deceased
 
17           Filipino-American service member or veteran who was a
 
18           resident of the city and county of Honolulu; and

 1      (4)  The wives, husbands, or minor children who predecease a
 
 2           Filipino-American service member or veteran who would
 
 3           be entitled to interment;
 
 4 provided that the service member or veteran shall subscribe to a
 
 5 statement that the service member or veteran will be so interred
 
 6 in the same veterans cemetery; and provided further that as to
 
 7 former residents, the cost of transportation of the remains to
 
 8 the interment shall be borne by the family or estate of the
 
 9 deceased."
 
10      SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.
 
11      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
