                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO TRAFFIC INFORMATION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Chapter 264, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended
 
 2 by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to
 
 3 read as follows:
 
 4      "�264-     Current traffic and road condition information
 
 5 provided.  The department of transportation shall establish and
 
 6 maintain a system, either through a radio station frequency, a
 
 7 "hotline" telephone line, or some other appropriate means, by
 
 8 which persons may obtain up to the minute information concerning
 
 9 traffic and road conditions throughout the State."
 
10      SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general
 
11 revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $       , or so much
 
12 thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 1999-2000, to
 
13 establish a radio station frequency or "hotline" to provide up to
 
14 the minute information on traffic and road conditions within the
 
15 State.  The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department
 
16 of transportation for the purposes of this Act.
 
17      SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.
 
18      SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 1999.
