                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

HONORING CAROL E. WINTERS, PH.D, RN; MARGARITA RIVERA, FNP, MSN,
   MPH, RN; DALE ALLISON, PH.D, APRN; MARION POIRIER, MA, RN;
   LEO ROBERTS, RN, AND IRENE ROBERTS, RN, FOR THEIR
   OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE NURSING PROFESSION.



 1       WHEREAS, the Legislature is proud to recognize those
 2   individuals who share their time, energy, and talents to meet
 3   the challenging needs of the greater community; and
 4   
 5       WHEREAS, each year, the nursing community honors those
 6   professionals whose achievements in nursing are truly
 7   outstanding and worthy of special recognition; and
 8   
 9       WHEREAS, the contributions of CAROL E. WINTERS, PH.D, RN,
10   to the profession of nursing and to the community at-large have
11   been numerous, as a nurse scholar and researcher, volunteer
12   service for international relief missions, and educational
13   consulting to the wider Pacific Basin; and
14   
15       WHEREAS, CAROL E. WINTERS, PH.D, RN, nurturing leadership
16   has inspired the Hawaii Pacific University nursing faculty to
17   develop Hoala Like, a collaborative initiative with the Waikiki
18   Health Center to provide primary nursing care to the uninsured
19   on the North Shore of Oahu; and
20   
21       WHEREAS, time and time again, MARGARITA T. RIVERA, FNP,
22   MSN, MPH, RN, has proven to be an excellent nurse practitioner
23   by receiving the United States Public Health Service
24   Outstanding Nurse Practitioner Award, and colleague recognition
25   for her commitment to high quality patient care for all who
26   seek health care services; and
27   
28       WHEREAS, DALE ALLISON, PH.D, APRN, has taken the role of
29   the nurse practitioner to new levels by assisting with outreach
30   program funding, providing nursing care to runaway youth, and
31   publishing several articles in nursing journals; and
32   
33       WHEREAS, MARION POIRIER, MA, RN, has proven herself the
34   epitome of a caring administrator by offering her knowledge and
35   expertise to a most diverse group of patients and has provided
36   superior administrative services as the executive director of
37   various healthcare organizations; and

 1       WHEREAS, LEO AND IRENE ROBERTS have dedicated themselves to
 2   serving patients, fellow nurses, and all in the healthcare
 3   community by acting as volunteers at St. Francis Medical Center
 4   and by promoting the nursing profession within our community;
 5   now, therefore,
 6   
 7       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
 8   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
 9   of 2000, that this body hereby honors and commends CAROL E.
10   WINTERS, PH.D, RN, for being selected as the Hawaii Nurses
11   Association 1999 Nurse of the Year; MARGARITA RIVERA, FNP, MSN,
12   MPH, RN as the recipient of the Hawaii Nurses Association
13   Excellence in Practice Award; DALE ALLISON, PH.D, APRN, Hawaii
14   Nurses Association 1999 Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year;
15   MARION POIRIER, MA, RN, for being selected as the Hawaii Nurses
16   Association Administrator of the Year; and LEO ROBERTS, RN, and
17   IRENE ROBERTS, RN, recipients of the Hawaii Nurses Association
18   Ruth Kemble Award for Volunteer Service; and extends to them
19   its warmest Aloha and best wishes for continued success in all
20   future endeavors.
