                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 269-55, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended to read as follows:
 
 3      "[[]269-55[]]  Handling of complaints.  The consumer
 
 4 advocate shall assist utility customers in the handling of
 
 5 consumer complaints before the public utilities commission,
 
 6 concurrent with the general powers of the public utilities
 
 7 commission, and the public utilities commission shall provide a
 
 8 central clearing house of information by collecting and compiling
 
 9 all consumer complaints and inquiries concerning public utilities
 
10 [and shall].  The consumer advocate shall monitor the handling of
 
11 consumer complaints by the public utilities commission."
 
12      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
13 New statutory material is underscored.
 
14      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
