STAND. COM. REP. NO. 3396

                                   Honolulu, Hawaii
                                                     , 2000

                                   RE: S.R. No. 8

Honorable Norman Mizuguchi
President of the Senate
Twentieth State Legislature
Regular Session of 2000
State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committees on Transportation and Intergovernmental
Affairs and Economic Development, to which was referred
S.R. No. 8 entitled:

"SENATE RESOLUTION URGING THE UNITED STATES MILITARY TO USE
HAWAII-GROWN COFFEE ON ALL MILITARY VESSELS,"

beg leave to report as follows:

The purpose of the measure is to urge the United States
military to use Hawaii grown coffee on all military vessels.

Testimony in support of the measure was received from the
Department of Agriculture.

Your Committees find that Hawaii grown coffee has been one
of the most successful local products in both crop production and
marketing and sales in recent years. It is the only coffee grown
in the United States and has a reputation as one of the best
coffees in the world. Its use on military vessels would enhance
the meal service as well as expose personnel from all over the
world to this unique product.

As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your
Committees on Transportation and Intergovernmental Affairs and
Economic Development that are attached to this report, your
Committees concur with the intent and purpose of S.R. No. 8 and
recommend its adoption.
