HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.B. NO.

1124

TWENTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2001

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATED TO MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE FUNDING OF A SECOND AMBULANCE TO SERVE THE WAIANAE COAST.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the department of health's emergency medical services systems branch stated that the Waianae coast is in need of additional ambulance services. Although a majority of the calls are handled within an average of fifteen minutes, thirty percent of those calls must be handled by adjacent units, the nearest of which is in Ewa Beach. The relative isolation of the forty thousand plus community and the additional influx of recreational visitors on weekends and holidays puts an additional strain on ambulance services on the Waianae coast. The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to alleviate the strain on limited existing services by placing a second ambulance into service on the Waianae coast.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $972,656, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002, for funding a second ambulance to service the Waianae Coast area.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the city and county of Honolulu for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
