A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to acupuncture PRACTITIONERS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 436E-3.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

"§436E-3.5 Physicians and osteopaths not exempt[.]; licensing requirements; jurisdiction. (a) Persons licensed under chapters 453 and 460 who desire to practice acupuncture shall be subject to licensing under this chapter.

(b) Notwithstanding any other provisions to the contrary:

(1) Upon application and payment of fees, persons licensed under chapters 453 and 460 who have completed a minimum of two hundred hours of training in acupuncture shall be licensed to practice acupuncture; and

(2) Licensure pursuant to this section shall be under the jurisdiction of the board of medical examiners and not the board of acupuncture."

SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
