S.B. NO.

973

TWENTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2001

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

making an appropriation for the SCHOOLS PARTICIPATING IN school/community-baseD management systems In lanai and molokai to cover transportation costs.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that schools in Lanai and Molokai that are participating in a school/community-based management (SCBM) system incur extra transportation costs when implementing their SCBM plans. The training and resources for SCBM training are usually located outside the islands of Lanai and Molokai. As a result, these schools incur additional costs when transporting personnel for SCBM training and other SCBM-related purposes to the other islands or to bring trainers and other resources into Lanai and Molokai.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to defer the additional transportation costs incurred by Lanai and Molokai SCBM schools.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $15,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002, for the Lanai High and Elementary School which is participating in the school/community-based management system to cover transportation costs.

SECTION 3. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $75,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002, for the five schools in Molokai participating in school/community-based management systems to cover transportation costs.

SECTION 4. The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.
