SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

CALLING FOR THE VOLUNTARY REDUCTION OF THE USE OF PESTICIDES, HERBICIDES, AND INSECTICIDES IN THE STATE OF HAWAII AND THE INTRODUCTION OF AN INTEGRATED PESTICIDE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM WHEREVER POSSIBLE.

 

 

WHEREAS, pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides are chemical poisons that are introduced into the environment and directly affect the quality of life in Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, these chemicals have a negative effect on the purity of our environment in the water, ocean, and soil; and

WHEREAS, these chemicals affect the longevity and diversity of species in Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, these chemicals become part of our foods and plants directly affecting the quality of health of the people of Hawaii; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, the House of Representatives concurring, that state agencies and private interests are urged to attempt to reduce the use of chemicals being released into the environment; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an Integrated Pesticide Management Program should be used where possible to reduce the use of chemicals into the environment; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Chairperson of the Board of Agriculture, the Director of Health,

and the Chief of the Environmental Management Division of the Department of Health.
