STAND. COM. REP. NO. 1607

Honolulu, Hawaii

, 2001

RE: GOV. MSG. NO. 156

Honorable Robert Bunda

President of the Senate

Twenty-First State Legislature

Regular Session of 2001

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Education, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 156, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:

ORRIN A. HAWORTH to the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts Commission for terms to expire June 30, 2001, and June 30, 2005.

begs leave to report as follows:

Upon review of the testimony and statement submitted by the nominee, your Committee finds that Orrin A. Haworth has the necessary character, experience, and qualifications to serve on the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts Commission.

Written testimony in support of the nominee was submitted by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.

Your Committee finds that Mr. Haworth is an experienced architect who has been an associate, designer, and principal architect in charge of numerous projects in Hawaii, with experience in residential design, office buildings, and retail centers. Mr. Haworth brings a decisive voice to commission proceedings and his experience will be of invaluable assistance in planning for the State Art Museum and Capitol District Visitor Information Center to be built in the No. 1 Capitol District Building, as well as in chairing the Art in Public Places committee.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Education that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, character, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Education,
