A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the department of human services' initial budgetary request to the governor for fiscal year 2001-2002 for rehabilitation teacher positions and for services to elderly blind persons was not included in the department of human services' budget. The legislature recognizes the importance of this budgetary request to address the vocational rehabilitation needs of the community.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate general and federal funds for four rehabilitation teacher for the blind positions and for services to assist elderly blind persons.

SECTION 2. There are appropriated or authorized from the sources of funding indicated below the following sums or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002 for four full-time equivalent (4.00 FTE) rehabilitation teacher for the the blind positions and for services to assist elderly blind persons in achieving independent living:

General fund $ 1

Federal funds $225,000

The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of human services for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
