A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO CRUISE SHIP WASTE DUMPING.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 342D, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§342D- Cruise ship, waste dumping prohibited. No cruise ship may dump its waste into state waters. No cruise ship may use any state-owned dock in Hawaii unless the cruise ship has a fully-functioning on-boat wastewater processing plant. State personnel shall be allowed on board the ship to verify compliance with this section at any time.

As used in this section, "cruise ship" means any vessel that carries passengers for hire."

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
