RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING THE ORION SOCIETY FOR its COMMITMENT TO NATURE THROUGH COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT, ART, AND WRITING, and urging state agencies to encourage participation in the orion society's forgotten language tour.
WHEREAS, the Legislature is always proud to recognize and honor those outstanding organizations that contribute to the needs of the State; and
WHEREAS, the Orion Society's mission is to inform, inspire, and engage individuals and grassroots organizations across America in becoming a significant cultural force for healing nature and communities; and
WHEREAS, the aims of the Orion Society are to carry out the responsibilities humans have to the earth and all life forms by showing respect and admiration and practicing humane stewardship; and
WHEREAS, the Orion Society will be bringing its Forgotten Language Tour (Tour) to Hawaii in fall of 2002 in partnership with the Pacific Writers Connection; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Tour is to promote nature literacy, and a deeper, more dynamic and creative understanding of our relationship with the natural world; and
WHEREAS, the Tour will bring together Hawaii's writers, artists, and environmentalists to inspire our community, and protect our cultural heritage and environment; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, the Senate concurring, that this body hereby recognizes and commends the Orion Society for its commitment and efforts toward creating a sustainable society and world; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature recognizes the Tour and its goals to create a lasting network of local community leaders to further inspire and capture the essence of Hawaii's natural and cultural resources through oral and written communication; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Education, University of Hawaii, State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the Office of Environmental Quality Control are requested to assist the Orion Society in creating awareness of, and encouraging participation in, the Tour; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted the Superintendent of Education, the President of the University of Hawaii, the Chairperson of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the Director of the Office of Environmental Quality Control.
