A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

making an appropriation for the planning and design of an ocean park in relation to economic development.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. PACON is the acronym for the Pacific Congress on Marine Science and Technology. The Hawaii Chapter of PACON International has been incorporated in the State of Hawaii to support international and local programs for its membership of ocean scientists, engineers, and educators residing in Hawaii.

The purpose of this Act is to support the activities of PACON International in the design and planning of an ocean park.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $250,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2002-2003, to support the activities of PACON International in the planning and design of an ocean park.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of business, economic development and tourism for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2002.
