A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO DRIVER EDUCATION FEE.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that with the implementation of Act 175, Session Laws of Hawaii 1999, the demand for driver education in the public schools has increased tremendously. In addition to the funds for the department of education driver education program received from the driver education fund underwriters fee pursuant to section 431:10-115, Hawaii Revised Statutes, there is a need for additional funds to support the program.

SECTION 2. Section 302A-416, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

"[[]§302A-416[]] Driver education fee. The board may assess a fee for each student enrolling in the driver education program. All [such] fees collected shall be deposited into [the state treasury to the credit of the general fund.] a special driver education fund in the department of education and funds shall be used to support the driver education program."

SECTION 3. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2002.
