HOUSE MAJORITY LEADER TO ATTEND NATIONAL LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

State Rep. Marcus R. Oshiro (D - Wahiawa, Whitmore Village), next week will travel to Georgia to attend the prestigious Leadership Institute, a joint project of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and the State Government Affairs Council Foundation.

Oshiro, in his second year as Majority Leader in the State House of Representatives, was nominated for participation by Speaker Calvin K. Y. Say, partly because of Oshiro's strong commitment to improving the administration and management of legislative processes.

Oshiro, who is serving a second term on NCSL's Executive Committee, joins a select group of lawmakers and private sector members at Georgia's Lake Lanier Islands for the three-day seminar beginning June 22. The goal of the Institute is to foster and develop strong, effective leadership in state government.

"I'm looking forward to this rare opportunity," Oshiro said. "The Leadership Institute has built a solid reputation for fostering networking opportunities and training leaders who serve in a governmental capacity. I plan to take advantage of every learning and networking opportunity and bring those skills and new knowledge to my job at the Capitol."

The National Conference of State Legislatures is a bipartisan organization founded to improve the quality and effectiveness of state legislatures, and to give states a strong, cohesive voice in federal government.
