HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.B. NO.

436

TWENTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE, 2003

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

making an appropriation to fund a second ambulance to serve the waianae coast.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the Waianae coast is in need of additional ambulance services. Although a majority of calls for emergency ambulance services are handled within an average of fifteen minutes, thirty per cent of those calls must be handled by adjacent units, the nearest of which is in Ewa Beach. The relative isolation of the community of more than forty thousand residents and the additional influx of recreational visitors on weekends and holidays place an additional strain on ambulance services on the Waianae coast. The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to alleviate the strain on limited existing services by placing a second ambulance into service on the Waianae coast.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $         , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2003-2004, and the sum of $          , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2004-2005, to fund a second ambulance to serve the Waianae Coast area.

SECTION 3. The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of health for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2003.
