HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.C.R. NO.

64

TWENTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE, 2003

STATE OF HAWAII

HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

REQUESTING HAWAII'S HOTELS TO PROVIDE FACILITIES FOR EMAIL AND INTERNET ACCESS FOR THEIR GUESTS.

WHEREAS, tourism is a vital part of the State's economy; and

WHEREAS, while the State promotes tourism in general, one specific type of visitor that the State has particularly sought is the business traveler; and

WHEREAS, the State facilitated the construction of the Hawaii Convention Center to draw more conventions and other business-related meetings to Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, business travelers expect a certain level of amenities when they travel for work; and

WHEREAS, one of the most necessary of these amenities is email and Internet access, so that conference attendees can keep in touch with developments back in their home offices; and

WHEREAS, while some hotels in Hawaii are providing Internet and email access to their guests, others do not, which detracts from the overall promotion of a business-friendly environment; and

WHEREAS, more vacationers are also seeking email and Internet access to connect with their friends and family back home; and

WHEREAS, the provision of email and Internet access will make Hawaii's hotels more attractive to all categories of visitors; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2003, the Senate concurring, that Hawaii's hotels are encouraged to provide email and Internet access to their guests; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the Hawaii Hotel Association, the President of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau, and the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii.
