SENATE RESOLUTION

 

REQUESTING THE DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION TO develop a driver's education program specifically for visitors to Hawaii on local driving rules and etiquette.

 

WHEREAS, Hawaii's drivers face some of the worst traffic congestion in the United States; and

WHEREAS, many tourists from all over the world choose to sightsee in the islands by means of driving an automobile; and

WHEREAS, many traffic accidents are caused by drivers who are unsure of local driving customs; and

WHEREAS, these accidents could be prevented if tourists were properly educated as to the rules and customs of driving in Hawaii; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2003, that the Director of Transportation is requested to develop a driver's education program specifically for visitors to Hawaii on local driving rules and etiquette; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the program be a public/private partnership including, but not limited to, local and national oil and insurance companies; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director of Transportation is requested to submit a draft of the driver's education program to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2004; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Director of Transportation.
