RELATING TO MASTER TEACHERS.

Establishes a master teachers training and certification program for teachers who desire to increase the quality of their teaching skills and serve as a resource to other teachers. Establishes a master teachers job series and salary ranges, grades, and schedules for the series. Appropriates funds. (Sakamoto)

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Appropriates funds for 2.00 FTE educational officer positions and 2.00 FTE clerk positions in order to coordinate the recruiting, hiring, licensing, and certifying of teachers and educational officers, respectively, for the DOE statewide. (Sakamoto)

RELATING TO REUSABLE RESOURCE CENTER.

Establishes a reusable resource center on state property through a public-private partnership, to collect and distribute recyclable materials for teachers and others to use as tools for creative learning in classrooms and the community. Appropriates funds to the department of education. (Fukunaga)

Allows school-level minor repairs and maintenance accounts to be used for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of components of a school's information infrastructure systems. (Menor)

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT.

Appropriates $800,000 to the DOE so that all elementary schools in the State will finally have playground equipment that meets the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the standards of the American Society for Testing and Materials, and the guidelines of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE X, SECTION 2, OF THE HAWAII CONSTITUTION, TO ALLOW THE STUDENT MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO VOTE.

Proposes an amendment to the state constitution to allow the student member of the board of education to vote, except on issues pertaining to personnel or fiscal matters. (Chun Oakland)
