University of Hawaii Budget Briefing Mr. Evan S. Dobelle, President University of Hawaii System
On January 21, 2003 the University of Hawaii system provided the House Finance Committee with information regarding budget priorities for the upcoming biennium. During the briefing it was noted that the UH system would be subject to a $6.9 million budget cut for the current fiscal year. Additional information received during the briefing indicated that the UH system would not have to cut $6.9 million from each year of the upcoming biennium. Based on new information obtained during a financial plan update briefing by the Department of Budget and Finance on January 31, 2003, it was noted that the UH system would be subject to a $6.9 million budget cut in each year of the coming biennium. Information to clarify this discrepancy will be provided by the UH system. Although the Board of Regents has the authority to make final budgetary decisions for the UH system, the next Board meeting will not occur until late February. President Dobelle or his designee, has been invited and will present a preliminary update (pending Board approval) of the UH system's budget to the House Committee on Finance. |
