A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to charter schools.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part IV, subpart D, to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§302A- Establishment of residency. No student, other than a student who is a resident of the State, may enroll in a new century charter school or new century conversion charter school. The department may adopt rules in accordance with chapter 91 to define the term "resident of the State" and to carry out the purposes of this section."
SECTION 2. This Act does not affect rights and duties that matured, penalties that were incurred, and proceedings that were begun, before its effective date.
SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
