REQUESTING THE STATE TO FOSTER AND IMPROVE RELATIONS BETWEEN ISRAEL AND THE STATE OF HAWAII.
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii derives considerable support from the tourism industry; and
WHEREAS, Israel is often a destination of choice for many residents of the State of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii and Israel can benefit from ties and arrangements with Israel, both politically and economically; and
WHEREAS, it would be beneficial to the State of Hawaii to consider making arrangements with Israel for the tourism industry; and
WHEREAS, both the State of Hawaii and Israel support a large tourism industry under difficult circumstances; and
WHEREAS, both the State of Hawaii and Israel have the challenge of a limited water supply and a large and growing per capita population; and
WHEREAS, Israel is a leader in water conservation and water desalinization; and
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii can learn from Israel how to meet these challenges to the tourism industry; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2004, that the State should encourage closer relations between Israel and the State of Hawaii; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, the Hawaii Tourism Authority, and the Governor.
