congratulating the board of water supply on its SEVENTY-FIFTH anniversary of providing safe and reliable drinking water to the residents of the city and county of HONOLULU.
WHEREAS, in 1929, the Hawaii Territorial Legislature established the semi-autonomous Board of Water Supply in response to the people's need for a water management agency that was above political control; and
WHEREAS, since its founding, the Board of Water Supply has been committed to balancing community needs, economic vitality, and environmental integrity; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Water Supply continually strives to provide a safe and reliable water distribution system for Oahu residents at the most affordable cost possible; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Water Supply pumps an average of one hundred fifty million gallons of water a day; maintains over one thousand nine hundred miles of pipes, which range in diameter from under an inch to over three feet; and maintains six shafts and eighteen tunnels around Oahu, as well as eighty-two wells stations, one hundred ninety-two wells, and a whopping one hundred sixty-nine reservoirs with a combined capacity of one hundred seventy-four million gallons a day; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Water Supply staff tracks the water use of over one hundred fifty thousand customers; tests samples to ensure that Oahu's water meets state and federal standards; runs public education and conservation programs; looks for innovative new sources of water; and works constantly to ensure that our water is clean, safe, and secure; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2004, that the Board of Water Supply is congratulated on its seventy-fifth anniversary of providing safe and reliable drinking water to the residents of the City and County of Honolulu; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives extends its best wishes and Aloha to the Board of Water Supply of the City and County of Hawaii and wishes it continued success in all its future endeavors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Water Supply of the City and County of Hawaii.
