STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to historic districts.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Hawaii has a long, rich military history with perhaps one of the most historic moments being the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. As the United States continues to send Hawaii's sons and daughters overseas to maintain world security, it is important to have a special place to remember and to commemorate the important roles that the military plays and has played in this State.

The purpose of this Act is to establish the Pearl Harbor historic district.

SECTION 2. Chapter 6E, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§6E-   Pearl Harbor historic district. The USS Arizona memorial, USS Bowfin submarine museum and park, the battleship Missouri memorial, Pearl Harbor historic trail, and the military aviation museum of the Pacific shall constitute the Pearl Harbor historic district."

SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
