S.B. NO.

TWENTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE, 2005

S.D. 1

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO Agriculture.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

Section 1. Currently, work on the lower Hamakua ditch project on the island of Hawaii is serviced by a private contractor. However, the legislature finds that the same work could be performed using the agricultural resource management division's personnel at a cost that is lower than what the current contractor is charging.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for three positions, two irrigation service worker II positions and one supervisor position, and the necessary equipment to service the lower Hamakua ditch project.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $204,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2005-2006, and the same sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for two irrigation service worker II positions and one supervisor position and the necessary equipment to service the lower Hamakua ditch project.

SECTION 3. The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of agriculture for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2005.
