A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO PUBLIC HOUSING.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to repeal the sunset date for the expedited public housing eviction procedures and to establish two resident services program specialist positions for intervention counseling within the Hawaii public housing authority.

SECTION 2. Act 227, Session Laws of Hawaii 2002, is amended by amending section 13 to read as follows:

"SECTION 13. This Act shall take effect upon its approval [and shall be repealed on July 1, 2007; provided that sections 201G-33, 201G-51, 201G-52, 201G-53, 201G-54, 201G-55, and 201G-56, Hawaii Revised Statutes, are reenacted in the form in which they read on the day before the approval of this Act]."

SECTION 3. There is appropriated out of general funds the sum of $88,128, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for two full-time equivalent (2.00 FTE) resident services program specialist positions. These positions shall provide intervention counseling services to public housing tenants to ensure that they understand the process, deadlines, remedies, and consequences of eviction from public housing.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the Hawaii public housing authority for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.

SECTION 5. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.
