A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $      or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007 to provide bonus stipends to teachers who have achieved national board certification under the certification program of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, who agree to teach and mentor for at least two years in a school in need of improvement; provided that any stipend provided under this Act shall not be included in the calculation of a teacher's retirement benefits.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
