A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to state parks.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 184-6, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

     "§184-6  Duties of department.  The department of land and natural resources shall preserve the parks and parkways in the state park system in their natural condition so far as may be consistent with their use and safety, and [improve] manage them in [such] a manner as to retain to a maximum extent their natural scenic, historic, and wildlife values for the use and enjoyment of [the public.] present and future generations.

     The fundamental purpose of the state park system is to conserve park resources and values.  Where there is a conflict between conserving resources and values and providing for use and enjoyment of those resources and values, conservation of those resources and values shall be the predominant concern."

     SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.


     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
