A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 249-10, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (c) to read as follows:

     "(c)  The owner of any antique motor vehicle shall be exempt from the tax and delinquent penalty imposed under this chapter for the entire period [of nonuse;] that the vehicle meets the definition of "antique motor vehicle" described in section 249-1; provided that the owner of the antique motor vehicle shall first present to the director of finance a signed and sworn certificate attesting [to the antique motor vehicle's period of nonuse.] that the vehicle meets the definition of "antique motor vehicle" in section 249-1.  Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, while antique motor vehicles are to be moved or operated primarily for historical exhibition or other similar purposes, the owner of an antique motor vehicle that has been certified pursuant to section 286-26 may operate the vehicle on the highways of the State for any of the following purposes:

     (1)  For participation in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades, and similar events including transportation to and from the events;

     (2)  For the purpose of testing their operation or obtaining repairs or maintenance; or

     (3)  For occasional pleasure driving not exceeding       miles from the residence of the owner."

     SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
