HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
recognizing january 20th of every year as barack obama ii ohana day.
WHEREAS, Barack Hussein Obama II was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States on January 20, 2009; and
WHEREAS, President Obama was born and raised in the state of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Barack Obama is the first President of the United States hailing from the state of Hawaii, as well as the first African-American to hold this high office; and
WHEREAS, the ascension of Barack Obama to the office of President affirms the noble American ideal of equal and boundless opportunity for all citizens; and
WHEREAS, President Obama's election has restored the people's faith in a government that works for the benefit of all; and
WHEREAS, it is a matter of great state pride that President Obama was nurtured and educated during his formative years in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, President Obama imbued his work in the urban neighborhoods of Chicago with the aloha and kokua Hawaii embodies, thereby bringing a touch of the Islands to the rest of the United States; and
WHEREAS, this whisper of Hawaii contributes to President Obama's ability to act as a bridge, unifying the great diversity of cultures and peoples that make up our United States; and
WHEREAS, President Obama's accomplishment continues to shed a positive light on Hawaii within the national arena; and
WHEREAS, the message of hope and possibility, grounded in the values of our Islands, that President Obama consistently emphasizes has inspired people around the world; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2009, the Senate concurring, that the Governor is respectfully requested to proclaim January 20th of every year as Barack Obama II Ohana Day in commemoration of the unprecedented achievement of Hawaii-born Barack Hussein Obama II; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Barack Obama II Ohana Day shall not be construed as a state holiday; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
