THE SENATE

S.B. NO.

1015

TWENTY-FIFTH LEGISLATURE, 2009

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

making a appropriation for south kohala water reservoir.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $500,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2009-2010 for a grant-in-aid to the county of Hawaii for the design of a five million gallon water reservoir to replace the existing four million gallon clean water reservoir at the Waimea water treatment plant in South Kohala.  The new reservoir will be designed to withstand intense seismic impacts.  Design and construction of a new reservoir would minimize the impacts from loss of service to critical state facilities such as hospitals and schools in the event of an earthquake.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the county of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2009.
