A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  (a)  There is established a joint legislative task force to clearly identify near-term solutions that more effectively address domestic violence in Hawaii.

     (b)  The task force shall consist of ten members as follows:

     (1)  Two members of the house of representatives appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives with one member serving as co-chair of the task force;

     (2)  Two members of the senate appointed by the president of the senate with one member serving as co-chair of the task force;

     (3)  Four members representing organizations providing services to victims of domestic violence, two of whom shall be appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives and two of whom shall be appointed by the president of the senate; and

     (4)  Two members who are domestic violence victim advocates, one of whom shall be appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives and one of whom shall be appointed by the president of the senate.

     (c)  Members of the task force shall serve without compensation and shall receive no reimbursement for expenses.

     (d)  All proceedings and records of the task force shall be exempt from chapter 92, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

     (e)  The task force shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2011.

     (f)  The task force shall cease to exist on June 30, 2012.

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect on January 1, 2050.
