A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO SCHOOLS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§302A-    Closure and consolidation of schools; factors.  (a)  In determining whether a school should be closed for the purpose of consolidation, a school's inability to obtain adequate funding for its operations under the weighted student formula shall not be used as a factor.

     (b)  For purposes of this section, "consolidation" means the closing of one or more existing schools and the transfer of all students enrolled at the closed school to another school and does not include the transfer of one or more grade levels to another school."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
