NOTICE OF JOINT INFORMATIONAL BRIEFING

The purpose of the informational briefing will be to discuss elder care in Hawaii, the possible shortage of healthcare workers, and consumer protection issues, such as elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.

 

The briefing will review Adult Day Care Centers under the purview of DHS and seek recommendations for "best practices" for the seniors being served under these Centers.

 

Moreover, the Department of Human Services has been requested to provide a status update on the implementation of recertification procedures for certified nursing assistants who provide a vital role in healthcare services to our elderly and disabled.

 

The briefing seeks to attain a better understanding of the long-term healthcare continuum in Hawaii and solutions to better address elder abuse.

Linda Kim, Professor of Nursing, Hawaii Pacific University

 

Adult Day Care Centers

 

Alliance of Residential Care Administrators

 

The Primary Care Providers of Hawaii

Adult Foster Homecare Association of Hawaii

 

United Group of Home Operators

 

Healthcare Case Management representatives

 

Other individuals or organizations related to caregivers, case managers, care home operators and adult foster home operators.

 

To ensure that all testifiers have adequate time to speak, please limit answers and comments to 10 minutes per State Department and Administration and 5 minutes for an individual or group.

 

Persons on the testifiers list wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing with a transmittal cover indicating:

 

·    Testifier's name with position/title and organization;

·    The Committee the comments are directed to;

·    The date and time of the hearing;

·    Measure number; and

·    The number of copies the Committee is requesting. 

 

While every effort will be made to copy, organize, and collate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing or improperly identified or directed to the incorrect office, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.

 

Submit testimony in ONE of the following ways:

PAPER: One copy (including an original) to Room 315 in the State Capitol;
