A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  In November 2011, Honolulu will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Meeting.  APEC is the premier forum for Asia-Pacific economies to discuss trade and investment issues.  The President of the United States, heads of state, cabinet ministers, business leaders, government officials, and many others are expected to attend the APEC meeting.

     It is imperative that the State of Hawaii provide a safe venue for the APEC meeting. 

     The purpose of this Act is to support the department of the attorney general's efforts in planning for the event and provide funding for law enforcement personnel and their related operating and equipment costs, including computers and software, to ensure a successful and safe APEC meeting.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2011-2012, to carry out the purposes of this Act, including the funding of operating expenses relating to the planning and operation of security services and activities for the 2011 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of the attorney general for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2022.
