HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.R. NO.

TWENTY-SEVENTH LEGISLATURE, 2014

STATE OF HAWAII

HOUSE RESOLUTION

requesting the chief election officer to establish additional election polling places in state house district 4.

WHEREAS, State House District 4, composed of the vast Puna district in the County of Hawaii has one of the fastest-growing residential populations in the State and requires voters living on the outskirts of the district to travel long distances to election polling places; and

WHEREAS, in the 2012 primary and general elections, there were only three polling places serving State House District 4, even though other voting districts of the County of Hawaii with comparable numbers of registered voters were provided with more polling places; and

WHEREAS, the establishment of additional polling places within State House District 4 would provide much-needed relief for district voters and alleviate the workload at present polling places; and

WHEREAS, the Chief Election Officer has the authority to establish new precincts and polling places within a representative district under section 11-92.1, Hawaii Revised Statutes; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, that the Chief Election Officer is requested to establish additional election polling places in State House District 4 in time for the 2014 primary election; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Chief Election Officer, and the Chairperson of the Elections Commission.
