A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to broadband.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  (a)  The department of commerce and consumer affairs shall conduct a study on broadband in Hawaii.  The study shall include:

     (1)  A list of accomplishments that the broadband assistance advisory council, established pursuant to Act 199, Session Laws of Hawaii 2010, has performed since its establishment to advance high-capacity, low-cost services to residents and businesses; and

     (2)  By inquiry of major broadband providers, a list of what has been accomplished and what more can be done to help providers lower costs and increase speeds to residents and businesses.

     (b)  The department of commerce and consumer affairs shall submit a report of its study findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2016.


     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2015.
