RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Beginning with the 2016-2017 school year, requires a child to undergo a physical examination prior to attending seventh grade.  Provides for provisional attendance with written documentation if child is in progress of undergoing a physical examination and sets deadline for submittal of documentation of completion of such examination.  (HB578 HD1)

Status

RELATING TO AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS.

Establishes the R.E.A.C.H. (Resources for Enrichment, Athletics, Culture, and Health) program in the office of youth services to provide a standardized framework and funding for afterschool programs in public middle schools.  Establishes a revolving fund to receive fees and other moneys to fund the costs of administering and operating the program.  (HB397 HD1)

Requires that each neighbor island county is represented on the early learning advisory board for a term of office of three years.

RELATING TO SCHOOLS.

Authorizes each public school, at the discretion of the principal or principal's designee, to accept in-kind services in lieu of collecting fees and charges for the use of school facilities and grounds.

Status

RELATING TO BULLYING.

Requires certain state entities and grantees to adopt bullying prevention policies.  Establishes a task force to assist the Governor with bullying prevention policies in the State.

Status

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Applies the requirement for all public secondary schools to implement a school year that includes 990 student instructional hours to all school years beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.  Repeals the requirement that by the 2016-2018 school years, all public schools implement a school year of 180 days and 1,080 student instructional hours for both elementary and secondary school grades.  Clarifies that the definition of "student instructional hours" shall be determined by the board of education in consultation with the exclusive representatives of the appropriate bargaining units.
