A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO HOUSING VOUCHERS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 201H, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§201H-    Housing voucher program; full-time classroom teachers.  (a)  The corporation may develop and implement a housing voucher program for full-time classroom teachers employed by the department of education, including classroom teachers at public charter schools.  Each housing voucher shall not exceed $        , and may be used toward rent or mortgage payments for the classroom teacher's primary residence.

     (b)  Upon the establishment of any housing voucher program for full-time classroom teachers, the corporation shall develop an application procedure, as well as processes, procedures, and forms necessary to implement and maintain the housing voucher program.  The corporation shall also work with the department of education to develop a process to verify an applicant's status as a full-time classroom teacher employed by the department of education.

     (c)  Any housing voucher granted pursuant to this section shall be renewable without further application or verification.

     (d)  The corporation may adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 to effectuate the purpose of this section."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.
