A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

MAKING AN EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  This Act is recommended by the governor for immediate passage in accordance with section 9 of article VII of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii.

     SECTION 2.  The State of Hawaii is involved in several major lawsuits that could result in costly judgments against the State if not defended vigorously.  These major lawsuits will require the State to retain expert witnesses and expert counsel.

     SECTION 3.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $1,100,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary, for fiscal year 2014-2015 to be used by the department of the attorney general in major litigation involving the State.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of the attorney general for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
