A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to hawaii FARM-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAM COORDINATION.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 141, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§141-     Hawaii farm-to-school program; farm-to-school coordinator.  (a)  There is established within the department of agriculture a Hawaii farm-to-school program.  The purpose of the farm-to-school program shall be to improve access to nutritious foods in public educational institutions and develop the agricultural workforce for the benefit of local farmers and consumers by increasing the purchase of foods grown in Hawaii by state agencies, including schools.

     (b)  The Hawaii farm-to-school program shall be headed by a farm-to-school coordinator."

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2015-2016 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2016-2017 for the establishment of one full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) farm-to-school coordinator position for the Hawaii farm-to-school program in the department of agriculture.

     The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of agriculture for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2015.
