Act 207 (SLH 2016) requires the preparation and submission of a comprehensive report by the Department of the Attorney General on the number, past processes, progress, plans and timeframes, costs, and criteria for testing of untested and new sexual assault evidence kits currently being stored and/or collected by county law enforcement agencies and/or departments.  Act 207 further requires: identification of victim notification and support services that may become necessary in connection with testing untested and new kits; potential funding sources; and areas for further legislative action or policy changes.

 

The purpose of this Informational Briefing is to review and discuss the contents and recommendations of the Act 207 report.  Guests invited to speak at this Informational Briefing include:

          Douglas Chin, Esq., Attorney General and/or designated representative(s);

          Representative of the Hawai‘i County Police Department;

          Representative of the Maui County Police Department;

          Representative of the Kaua‘i County Police Department;

          Representative of the Honolulu Police Department;

          Representative of the Honolulu Police Department Crime Lab;

          Adriana Ramelli, Executive Director, Sex Abuse Treatment Center;

          Cathy Betts, JD, Executive Director, Hawai’i State Commission on the Status of Women; and

          Kata Issari, Executive Director, Hawai‘i Region Joyful Heart Foundation
