RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Establishes one full-time equivalent (1.00 FTE) world languages institutional support position within the Department of Education.  Appropriates funds to fund the position.

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Permits individual department of education schools and career pathways, academies, or programs operated within a department of education school, to engage in commercial enterprises, including the sale of goods produced by or for an individual school, career pathway, academy, or program.

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION.

Appropriates $250,000,000 to the Department of Education for school-level funding.

RELATING TO EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS.

Establishes the safe keiki grant program to award funds to qualified DOE schools to purchase supplies for students to remain at school shelters for 48 hours in the event of an emergency.  Appropriates funds.

Status

RELATING TO STANDARDIZED TESTING.

Limits the number of standardized tests a student shall take in a school year.  Requires the board of education to conduct a statewide survey of school administrators and teachers to determine the time spent on preparing for standardized tests and the impact of preparation time on the quality of instruction.

Status

RELATING TO HOUSING VOUCHERS.

Authorizes the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation to establish a housing voucher program for full-time classroom teachers employed by the Department of Education or by a public charter school.  (HB2166 HD1)
