THIRTIETH LEGISLATURE, 2019

H.D. 2

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO THE STATE COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that the work of the state commission on the status of women, established by the governor by executive order on May 15, 1964, demonstrates the need for a continuing body to aid in the implementation of its recommendations, to develop long-range goals, and to coordinate research, planning, programming, and action on the opportunities, needs, problems, and contributions of women in Hawaii.  The purpose of the state commission on the status of women is to provide for a statewide program, on a permanent and continuing basis, on the status of women in Hawaii.

The state commission on the status of women needs additional funds to better fulfill its statutory mandate.  The additional funds will be used to support an annual public awareness campaign, cooperate with national groups to host a conference and trainings around sex trafficking, and assist with the costs of design work and paid media including radio, bus, and social media promotion.

The purpose of this Act is to provide funding for the operations of the state commission on the status of women for the fiscal biennium beginning July 1, 2019, and ending June 30, 2021.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $         or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2019-2020 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 to support the state commission on the status of women.

The sums appropriated shall be expended by the state commission on the status of women for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2019.
