A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RElating to THE statewide traffic code.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 291C, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part XII to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§291C-     Display of registration tags or emblems and inspection stickers.  No person shall operate a vehicle registered and inspected in the State pursuant to chapters 249 and 286 unless the vehicle displays a current, valid registration tag or emblem that is affixed in the manner prescribed by section 249-7(c) and a current, valid inspection sticker that is affixed in the manner prescribed by section 286-26(e).  A law enforcement officer shall issue a citation to any person who operates a vehicle in violation of this section; provided that the penalty for a violation of this section shall be as prescribed in section 286-25 or section 286‑61, as applicable."

     SECTION 2.  This Act does not affect rights and duties that matured, penalties that were incurred, and proceedings that were begun before its effective date.

     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
