HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

REQUESTING THE COLLEGE OF TROPICAL AGRICULTURE AND HUMAN RESOURCES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT MANOA TO EXPLICITLY INCLUDE BUSINESS EDUCATION AND GUIDANCE FOR FARMERS IN ITS MISSION STATEMENT.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, according to the website for the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, part of the mission of the college is to create and deliver "knowledge that supports and strengthens . . . agricultural and food systems", and part of the college's vision is to "solve real world challenges"; and

 

     WHEREAS, the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawaii at Manoa has focused mostly on the agricultural aspects of farming; and

 

     WHEREAS, many farmers in the State could greatly benefit from business education to ensure that their farming operations remain profitable; and

 

     WHEREAS, although the agricultural aspects of farming should remain a high priority at the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the college should also prioritize business education and guidance for farmers to help those farmers "solve real word challenges"; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2021, the Senate concurring, that the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawaii at Manoa is requested to explicitly include business education and guidance for farmers in its mission statement; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawaii at Manoa is requested to provide the President of the Senate and a Speaker of the House of Representatives with a copy of its mission statement after the statement has been revised to reflect its emphasis on business education and guidance for farmers; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Dean and Director for Research and Cooperative Extension at the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Chair of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents, President of the University of Hawaii, Provost of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Chairperson of the Board of Agriculture.
